This brochure provides information about areas of quality and safety covered by the NSQHSS, including information about falls risk minimisation, infection control, the Private Patients Hospital Charter, handover of patient information, patient identification awareness, medication, care plans and notifying staff of changes in your health.

Medication Management

For general information about common mental health medications the Medication – Information for Patients brochure has been developed.  Always ask your Doctor or the Nursing staff if you have any questions about the medications you have been prescribed.

Falls Prevention

Research has shown that your chance of a fall increases whilst you are in Hospital.  injuries as a result of falls include minor skin abrasions, joint dislocation, fractures and head injuries.  Things the can contribute to the increased likelihood of falls include:

  • Unfamiliar surroundings
  • Medication
  • Flooring
  • Poorly fitting footwear

Hand Hygiene

Delmont Private Hospital participates in the Nation Hand Hygiene strategy which has been developed by Hand Hygiene Australia.  As part of the strategy all staff are trained in the five moments of hand hygiene, which is use of antiseptic rub or washing hands at the following five moments – 

  • Before touching a patient
  • Before a procedure
  • After a procedure
  • After touching a patient
  • After touching a patient's environment

Antiseptic rub is located throughout the Hospital and patients, staff and visitors are encouraged to use this.

Regular audits of compliance with correct hand hygiene are undertaken and results are compared with national results, shown below -

Am I covered for private hospital care?

Some patients are surprised to find that they are not fully covered for the care they need in private hospitals.  If your private health insurance policy contains exclusions or restrictions then you may not be able to access some services in private hospitals.  The brochure provides general information regarding health insurance.
